Eastleigh: The land of Opportunity

Posted on February 1, 2010

There are many reasons why I like Eastleigh [I must confess that I probably know only a small part of the area, mainly the commercial center]. At the top of the list is the fact that it has nice hotels/Lodges, which at relatively low prices provide the best value for money compared to many wannabes at Nairobi City Center. The food at some restaurants is also excellent, though a bit pricey than you would expect. Also, at the rate at which it is growing, it will soon surpass many affluent places in Nairobi as a very important financial capital (If it hasn’t already). Of course, like other parts of the City, it has its fair share of problems, some of which are mentioned in the NTV video. Its roads are in absolute shambles and if repaired would boost its economic potential tenfold. It helps a lot if you have a friend who resides (or knows his/her way around) in the area because sometimes, if you seem to appear ‘foreign’ or ‘lost’, some folks may get suspicious and ask you too many questions
